“The overall goal of urban solid waste management is to collect, treat and dispose solid waste generated by all urban population groups in an environmentally and socially satisfactory manner using the most economical means available.” (WorldBank; Urban Solid Waste Management)

The great growth rate of population worldwide and the expansion of cities and the amounts of solid waste generated make it more and more important to provide adapted collection systems and environmentally friendly disposal sites to avoid fly tipping and illegal landfills which cause major environmental damage and health risks.

For a successful implementation and sustainability of any solid waste project it is essential that the community participates in the collection, receives consultation on cost recovery and that the public becomes aware of the need and use of collection and disposal systems. Typical needs of sustainable solid waste management project development are:

  • Strategic Planning of Solid Waste Management
  • Institutional Capacity Building
  • Technical Solutions
  • Environmental issues

Dornier-Schneider Consulting has carried out several project in Germany and overseas in the design and supervision of waste disposal projects and is able to develop technically and economically optimised solutions, covering all the engineering works related to this task.
